We recommend and install the Ubiquiti UniFi line of products to all our clients, the remote management capabilities have allowed us to get an internal view of clients never available before unless we sent a tech onsite. No more asking users to tell us what switch lights are doing or to unplug a POE port to reboot a device.
  • Remote management
  • Cost savings
  • Advanced features
  • Lacking direct vendor support options.
  • Using latest firmware is risky.
  • Controller features aren't always well tested before going live.
Ubiquiti line of products is great for home and small businesses, they give the opportunity for these types of users to get advanced features without advanced cost. Managed service providers will also find the remote features are a game-changer when it comes to troubleshooting issues and making changes to a client. Often, we can send one tech to install, while another is at our office doing the configuration, and new equipment is easy to add right out of the box with almost no configuration needed. The one area I would not use UniFi is if reliability is your number one concern as firmware revisions can be buggy and need to be tested before upgrading live equipment.

We currently have an ubiquity VM controller with multiple access points, and 802.1x authentication is supported. It is best suited for outdoor long-range requirements. The main issue we face with these devices is the lack of penetrative power. Moreover, clients get disconnected in high-density environments. The controller is highly user-friendly and robust.
  • Ap handoffs work well
  • Getting the desired Bandwidth in less interference areas.
  • 1x Authentication is stable.
  • Disconnection issue in high dense environment.
  • Less penetrative power.
  • Less troubleshooting options in controller.
It is best suitable for outdoor requirements, and has long signal coverage for long-distance coverage, at the same time it is not suitable for indoor areas where obstructions and interferences are high. It is cost-effective also making it suitable for medium-level customers also. Overall a medium product at this budget level.

We utilize Ubiquiti Networks UniFi both hardware and software solutions for our office uses. We use the network features, the door access system (Access), and the camera system (Protect). All of the technology needs that our company needed we got to have in one in house solution. It was so easy to set up and install that we were even able to do it in house with very little experience in network installations.
  • Easy of use
  • Documentation
  • Quality Hardware
  • Great feature set
  • Apple Homekit Key Access
  • Some features are locked behind the 'legacy' network settings
  • Door access reader pro (with camera) doesn't sync to the protect app
Ubiquiti's Network Solutions (Hardware and software) are an incredible value to achieve Entry level enterprise networking & networking solutions at whatever scale you need. It has very great user installation guides, it's all very straight forward. Managing the network is a breeze, and it's as easy as pie to add some of the other service offerings at any time!

So - I have these deployed in many places. Here at Sahadi, I have switches deployed as the backend to Vonage Business VoIP phones in my two retail stores. I have multiple APs deployed in my 3rd warehouse location which provides WiFi for my Honeywell thermostats. I have personal clients with APs and switches deployed to run their household networks. And every time I upgrade a location, Unifi switches, and APs are my go-to choice. Simply put, these are the most affordable, and reliable, networking solutions on the market when you want a cloud-based solution that won't break the bank.
  • Price: Super reasonable for a cloud-based offering.
  • No ongoing license fees!: To me, this is the best part of it.
  • Ease of deployment: You can literally deploy an entire network in minutes.
  • Lots of choices for WiFi.
  • VLANs: They can make these work more smoothly. Setup can be more intuitive.
  • Cloud Key: These need to be stabilized; they lose their programming a little too easily.
  • Stop selling the Gen-1 cloud key: No battery means you need an external power source or you must be onsite to power it off before updating.
  • Portal can be modernized.
Small businesses and homes that require a lot of backend networking and/or really thorough WiFi coverage would both benefit from Unifi. The price point is huge as these products, with the lack of ongoing license fees, can fit into most small biz budgets. The simple deployment also means less management, and the fact that it is completely cloud-based allows me to manage these systems from anywhere. As a small business owner myself, this increases my client base without increasing my SLA requirements.

Ubiquiti Networks UniFi solution is a reliable cost-effective Wifi solution in the market. It has all the basic features required for a small to medium enterprise wireless network. It is also centrally managed via a software-based controller which can be installed on any compatible computer. we have been using this solution in one of our larger remote sites where the wireless coverage area and a number of users are large.
  • Central management.
  • Easy AP setup.
  • Easy WLAN SSID setup.
  • Wireless MAC Filtering.
  • Local switching in case of controller failure.
  • Multiple SSIDs.
  • Good looking APs.
  • Improvement in number of users support.
  • Application traffic visibility.
  • Increased antenna gain.
  • Rogue AP detection and mitigation.
Ubiquiti Networks UniFi is a cost-effective wireless solution that is most suited to small to medium enterprises which have a budget constraint for wireless infrastructure deployment and management. It has no additional licenses and you only need to purchase the hardware. Even the WiFi controller is free of cost. This solution, however, is not suitable for large enterprises where the number of users is more than 500 because these APs are not built to handle a large number of users' traffic load.

We manage the infrastructure of a 4 story building where our headquarters is and needed a solution to provide guest internet access to the other companies that have offices in that building. We also have a camera system (CCTV) from Unifi in place to monitor all important areas of the building and make sure everything is safe. That is the use case for Ubiquiti Networks UniFi in our company.
  • Provides wifi internet connection
  • Allows multiple SSID management
  • Allows access to connection statistics
  • Firmware upgrades sometimes break the installation
  • Connection issues are hard to diagnose
  • Support seems to have poor knowledge
From our experience, I believe that for simpler installations, like events in large rooms where you don't have too many variables, it should be fine. It would provide internet access to a large number of people with no issues. In our case though, we have multiple floors with several obstacles disturbing the signal propagation. From time to time we have issues with connectivity and have to address those.

Like many organizations, I have a need for multiple networks. From staff, guest, to IoT. I needed a solution that would allow for streamlining deployment. Since I have multiple buildings to service, Ubiquiti allowed me to connect each building using fiber and I now can remotely manage, gain insights, and perform maintenance from my phone.
  • Ubiquity's management app seems more effective versus using a laptop and browser for management.
  • Updates are sent to all devices when I am ready.
  • Ubiquity's WiFi coverage is enhanced and I can expand with Mesh.
  • Ubiquiti's AR is problematic.
  • It is difficult to purchase due to low or out of stock supplies.
  • there is a different mindset into programming when coming from traditional systems.
I cannot think of a scenario where Ubiquiti is not well suited. the only area may be consumer markets where Ubiquiti's higher-end products are cost-prohibitive.

It is used for enterprise wireless, guest wireless and the backbone of the network. We use access points and switches. Unifi addresses is a cost effective solution that is enterprise grade with the giant price tag of other well known vendors. It is easy to manage and has not extra license costs for centralized management.

Any company that has a tight budget and needs to implement good switches and access points while being able to manage them in a central location. Unifi hardware is very cost effective. Don't waste time with gateways and routers though. I believe they are not mature enough to support more complicated configurations and not all config options are yet available in the UI.

Unifi is used as primary WiFi at multiple locations. We acquired a site that had Unifi and we liked it so much we implemented it at other locations. I am the primary administrator but I do have a backup. Unifi is easy to implement, configure, and use. We have multiple SSIDs configured so we can have member and corporate wireless connections.
  • Mesh networking: Seamlessly traverse APs with no noticeable issues.
  • Configuration: It's simple to configure or reconfigure an AP or gateway quickly.
  • Mobile App: The Unifi app makes it easy to check on my sites, and to configure APs individually if necessary.
  • Price point. Their goal was originally to disrupt the market. I think their prices speak to this.
  • AP provisioning: any change requires the AP to go offline. This can be extremely disruptive.
  • Metrics: While easy to find, they aren't easy to understand. The numbers are there and the graphs are pretty. But they are seemingly meaningless.
  • Cloud keys: the original cloud keys were terrible. The new generation are much better. The old ones are out there. Avoid them.
  • The LEDs on the APs always fade over the course of a year.
Unifi works well in our organization—we are a health and wellness center (think gym, but more). It's easy to adjust and tweak the signal strength, bands, channels, etc. in order to maximize the member experience in our centers. The outdoor units are perfect for our pools, both indoors and out, as they are weather sealed. We have had large groups of people in one area with only two or three APs to handle the load and they performed beautifully.

It's being used for office connectivity and remote connectivity, although the constant failures and lack of any support has made Ubiquiti devices unusable.
  • Nothing
  • I created an urgent ticket that was escalated to tier 2 and I have yet to receive a response from their support. Entire office is down, I've asked for help 2-3 times a day and no response from Ubiqiti. Worst support ever
  • Their interface is straight garbage - even if it worked correctly, which it doesn't. It's the iPhone of firewalls - it assumes you don't know how to set anything up, so they don't give you advanced options. You have to click something like 14 times just to view VPN status - and there's something like 4 different admin panels for a single device yet no logic to what tools will be located in which admin panel.
  • The hardware repeatedly freezes and has errors. Newest firmware, kept cool and dry - warranty is useless since support will never contact you back.
I would never recommend anyone use these products. EVER.

We use Ubiquiti [Networks UniFi] for all of our wireless devices. The performance is great and all of their devices are very configurable and easy to use.
  • High speed
  • Very scalable
  • Easily Managed
  • Secure management
  • Management takes a little bit to get used to
  • Not easy to setup a wireless bridge
  • Technical support is slow for difficult issues.
Most of my colleagues are IT pros, and they use Ubiquiti [Networks UniFi]. The product is awesome for IT departments. End users may not be the best fit for managing these devices.

We use Ubiquiti Networks UniFi products to power our Office Wi-Fi network. The enterprise access points offer excellent coverage, throughput and reliability in a small and attractive form factor that blends into an office environment easily. Our previous wireless setup was ad-hoc, spotty, and generally less than resilient during peak periods. The unaesthetic 'traditional router' looks meant that we were limited with placement, which further affected performance. The pricing is also affordable and has also led to several employees exploring the brand for their own personal use at home.
  • Looks / Aesthetics - Blends well into a office / home environment
  • Pricing is highly competitive
  • No complaints with speed and resiliency
  • Support could be improved (in our region anyway)
  • Range is great, but not as great as some external-antenna products
  • An industrial / rugged version would be nice
Ubuiqiti Networks Unifi Products work well for home / office / home-office environments where budget, aesthetics / appearance, performance and reliability are important (but not critical), and restrictions with placement requires the devices to be out in the open.

The products are likely less suited for rugged/industrial environments and other mission-critical scenarios where the quality of enterprise support is a major concern.

Ubiquity, a U.S. company, is taking the lead in creating robust and easy-to-use wired and wireless networking hardware. Their hardware reminds me of Apple and their software aims to provide simple yet feature-full control and management points for even novices. Given the ease of deployment and affordability, we deployed several site-wide implementations with great success. As a solution, Ubiquiti Networks UniFi provides tight integration, low cost, and easy management for small to medium enterprises. The Ubiquiti Networks UniFi Access Points are especially robust and capable of supporting anywhere from 300 to 500+ clients, depending on model.
  • Excellent management platform
  • Mix of on-premises and cloud services
  • No expensive recurring licensing model
  • Robust hardware
  • Customer support is chat and email; phone support reserved for contacts
  • Firmware update releases are not very frequent
  • Some enterprise features are missing in hardware branded "pro"
By providing single-pane-of-glass management for a multi-site deployment, Ubiquiti Networks UniFi makes it easy to have oversight and real-time feedback regarding the state of the network through mobile apps and web interfaces. Unlike competitors, there are no licensing costs to the hardware and the hardware itself is very reasonably priced to begin with. The ecosystem is tightly integrated with networking, security, access control and telephony all working together under the same platform. However, the main drawback is the lack of some enterprise features, which could be of concern to some organizations, therefore a deep review of the needed/desired functionality is recommended before purchase.

It's currently used in our organization for mostly point to point connectivity between two separate locations, we are using it for almost 2 years continuously. During usage we didn't observe major downtimes except for firmware updates, throughput is also acceptable and overall the devices well built and can withstand outdoor climate.
  • Weather resistance.
  • Consistent throughput.
  • Low latency.
  • GUI needs some improvements.
  • Reporting.
  • Logs.
For long distances, for areas where there is a lot of metal structure like press, areas where there is a lot of electrical interference and high tension wires of electricity, we have observed following problems while deployment in our environment, for these types of environmental conditions it didn't perform up to the mark.

We use Ubiquiti Networks UniFi for our public/open wireless network. Per contract, employees need to have access to the Internet for personal use while on breaks or off-hours, but this can create a security issue if it's tied to our internal network. So we use Ubiquiti Networks UniFi as a separate network, connected to its own ISP, for employees and clients and vendors who visit, without compromising security.
  • Wireless connectivity
  • Ease of management
  • Easy setup
  • Data reporting
  • Price
  • Filtering is not very robust
  • Setting up any kind of routing can be difficult
  • Other advanced networking features (e.g., VLANs) could be implemented better
  • Ubiquiti Networks UniFi lacks any kind of real support outside of posting on their forums
Ubiquiti Networks UniFi is perfect for simple but enterprise-level implementations. It is easy and quick to set up but has enough advanced features that most small-to-medium businesses will find it useful. Ubiquiti Networks UniFi is a whole suite of products, from wireless APs to security gateways, so it can be a complete solution, too. And with the Cloud Key, it can even be managed remotely if needed.

It would be less appropriate in a very complex, very large, robust network, I feel--especially if you need it to tie into other manufacturers' gear.

Ubiquiti Networks UniFi's strength is in its ease of deployment, use, mass management, restoration, price, and dashboard information. We use it for multiple client sites and manage it under one roof. The biggest issue it addresses is keeping hundreds of access points, switches, and controllers all doing their thing. It also is good at adjusting multiple access points automatically so they aren't stepping all over each other if a perfect site survey hasn't been done.
  • Easy deployment
  • Simple management
  • Excellent dashboards
  • Overall pleasant GUI
  • Hardware released too early
  • BGP not available
  • All configuration recommended to be done via GUI
Ubiquiti Networks UniFi is suited for multiple site deployments at small to medium-sized businesses while being able to keep track of hundreds of devices. It is not ready for Fortune 500 network infrastructure where you have tens or hundreds of thousands of devices. It is also likely unnecessary for home usage, though I do like their sister WiFi router/mesh called AmpliFi.

We are using Ubiquity devices as an alternative network for our production area users. It installs very quickly, the management of this device is easy, and connectivity is smooth. Now our 60% WLAN is dependent on Ubiquity Networks. In our plant we were facing fiber damage issues in our plant. Because we're in the automobile sector we can't wait for laying new fiber. Therefore we made a quick decision and implemented the Ubiquity device in 40 minutes and restored our network in our warehouse to resume operations. Now we installed it in many location for network extension because its price is very reasonable.
  • Smooth connectivity across long distance/range. It's amazing.
  • We use this device in heavy metal movement area & found this device fulfills all required need (we are using Infor-LX & SAP, no issue at all).
  • Price effective solution in long term.
  • Troubleshooting is very easy. In the last 4 years only one or two times we faced minor issues, power jerks etc.
  • Portal is not good.
  • Issues in large scale organization (it can be used in small business or mono activities).
  • Problem in VLAN environment.
Well suited in wireless connectivity for robotics (we are using in Plant robotics), small offices and plants (where Cable laying is an issue). The price is very good and also quick to set up the device (easily manage or handle small offices/home Offices).
Less Appropriate in large scale network environment & in VLAN environment.

We use Ubiquiti for two main areas:
  • Networking in our branch offices
  • Networking for our hosted servers
In our branch offices Ubiquiti permits a central management for our network equipment (router/firewalls, switches, wireless access points), while for our servers Ubiquiti permits to have a good 10Gbps managed network connectivity and in mean time containing costs for the equipments.
  • Network Management with Ubiquiti Software
  • Best value for money.
  • Ease of management
  • Some configurations can be made only from the command line
  • Some access point models don't work without a controller
I would recommend Ubiquiti in scenarios where costs are important because they are less expensive network devices than other brands. This does not mean giving up quality, all the Ubiquiti devices I have dealt with have proved to be very good, and with excellent performance.

Small server farms and branch offices are the most appropriate scenarios in my opinion. If, on the other hand, you are looking for more complex solutions, with higher scalability, it is better to focus on other brands.

We use UniFi network equipment at all of our two dozen locations. UniFi provides what they call a 'controller,' which acts as a central hub to which all of our network equipment reports. This means that from a single dashboard we can manage network equipment and settings across all of our locations. Features include offline device alerts (if an AP goes down, admins receive an email immediately), a dashboard to view usage across all sites, a central dashboard to adjust settings at individual sites, and the ability to restart devices and POE ports remotely from a web interface or phone app.
  • Central dashboard: From a single web page or phone app, admins can monitor and adjust network devices and settings even when off-site.
  • Central controller: No need to log into individual network devices, all UniFi devices report back to a single controller.
  • Fair to low-cost equipment: UniFi hardware is very reasonably priced. It is much lower in terms of cost than most peers.
  • $0 license for controller: The central controller (management interface) has no cost. This is without comparison as competing platforms charge large sums for monthly licensing.
  • Supports any size network: Anything from a SOHO up to an enterprise with hundreds of separate physical locations across regions can be managed with a single UniFi controller allowing a single dashboard for the entire group of networks.
  • Well supported hardware: Controller and device firmware frequently updated to add features and address industry-wide security changes.
  • Learning curve: It takes some time and practice to grasp the concepts and implementation behind the UniFi controller and device adopt/provision approach. Bench testing with multiple demo sites is advisable before a real deployment.
  • Fewer features than some competitors: The UniFi platform does not have all of the features that some competitors provide. UniFi charges $0 in licensing for the controller, but competitors charge large amounts of money for their controllers.
  • Relatively limited hardware options: As compared with competitors, the UniFi hardware product line does not have as many options as some competitors. Depending on a location's needs, this could be limiting.
UniFi is a great product line with very powerful software behind it. Aside from the hardware cost, there is no ongoing charge to use the platform. The controller software can be run on a customer-owned computer (anything from a Raspberry Pi up can run it, Windows, macOS, and many Linux platforms are supported). UniFi does provide hosting options for a monthly charge, but it is not difficult or unwieldy to host your own.
UniFi allows businesses to grow smoothly, whether it involves adding network devices at a single location or adding separate physical locations. All of this can be managed from a single dashboard from anywhere in the world. This helps to expedite issue resolution, prevent issues, and save time for updates to existing networks.
There are other product lines like UniFi available, but they all charge much money for hosting the central control dashboard, and most charge many times as much for each hardware component. There may be a slightly larger learning curve for UniFi than competitors, but it's not much different in concept.
Ongoing support and updates help keep the product line secure and current!

We are using the Unifi Software to control 18 access points and 8 network switches across our business. I am able to manage so much from the software and also remotely control things through their app. I have been recently replacing my APs with the AP AC Pro model because of the enhancements that come with AC. We moved away from independent APs a long time ago and have been able to setup Unifi easily and manage an ever-growing network across all departments. Soon we will be setting up some APs outside to help with our new phone system that will need Wi-Fi for between buildings.
  • Free software for management of devices, no fee ever.
  • Free tech support and live chat that actually is useful and it's built right into the console.
  • Free app for smartphones to manage multiple sites and they keep making it better and better.
  • Firmware updates and software updates actually fix things and some things you didn't realize were a problem they just make it better.
  • Would like phone support, email and chat are free and I don't think they offer phone support.
  • Visualization of wifi "reach" is unreliable and not accurate.
I would say small to medium business, if you have specific needs for more enterprise tech then go elsewhere, but I would say they are slowly getting to be Enterprise quality. We have 5 Buildings and 18 APs and I can manage them easily. I could see how having hundreds may begin to become a burden with the provided software, but I am going to always use Unifi until I cannot anymore.

We utilize Ubiquiti Networks UniFi across our entire organization - both in UniFi switches and UniFi access points. All of this is driven by a UniFi Cloud Key, which also provides our camera interface for UniFi Protect cameras from Ubiquiti.

Prior to this setup, we used a "hodgepodge" of networking equipment, ranging from Cisco, Dell, and Linksys technologies. However, we were looking for a solution that provided a single pane of glass into our environment in regards to networking and wanted to ensure our networking utilized a single manufacturer to avoid dealing with troubleshooting networking issues between different manufacturers. The other attractive point of Ubiquiti is its low total cost of ownership, but the high value in features for that low price point.
  • Highly intuitive configuration interface via the Cloud Key solution
  • Low price for high-quality equipment
  • Many networking solutions for a variety of networking scopes and needs
  • Fast setup and deployment of new equipment and replacement devices
  • Support - though they have gotten better in their offerings, it is incredibly hard through normal channels to reach direct support for their products. It's argued that this is what allows their cost to be lower on devices. The preferred method is to work with a reseller that can not only provide the material but the training and support for the product.
  • Disjointed company direction - while I can only provide an example of a single time this has occurred, Ubiquiti has been guilty of selling a solution for a length of time, only to completely abandon the solution with no future plans to revive/re-invent it (mFi monitoring equipment)
  • Hard to find resources - can be difficult to locate release notes of updates or to get a 'pulse' on what the company is working on or addressing - unless you subscribe and regularly monitor the community forums. A monthly email or regularly updated blog page would dramatically help with this.
Ubiquiti Networks UniFi is a fantastic solution for entry-level and mid-level businesses looking for a very cost-effective solution for their switching and access point needs. The design of the solution and management application are intuitive enough that you don't need a ton of networking knowledge to find your way around to perform tasks.

I would be hesitant in certain scenarios in placing UniFi switches in high-end mission-critical environments. I personally feel that while Ubiquiti makes strides in keeping things updated and continuing to add features, the firmware/software updates can be volatile and potentially disrupt the ability to manage devices. I see this more with their firewall offerings, and less with their core networking switches and access points. I'm hopeful this gets improved in future months as they continue to improve the products.

Unifi is our go-to WiFi solution for our office and all of our client sites. It provides reliable, simple to configure and use, centrally managed WiFi with a variety of access points to suit many different needs, as well as switches, gateways, and IP camera systems.
  • AP's are very affordable.
  • Most of the AP's are highly reliable and can be used indoors or in covered outdoor spaces.
  • Outdoor Mesh AP's with an external directional antenna can effectively cover outdoor spaces with dual band wifi better than much more expensive APs.
  • Unifi Protect via the Cloud Key Gen2+ is probably the slickest, most affordable IP camera system on the market right now.
  • Unifi controller is powerful yet simple to administrate.
  • Remote management of entire networks through a single pane of glass is easy to accomplish with the Unifi controller.
  • Cloud Key Gen2 solves problems with the first Cloud Key wiht a built-in battery backup.
  • When you are "full stack" Unifi with wifi, network switches and gateways, the control you can wield over a network in just a few clicks and the amount of data you can glean from a quick glance in the controller is incredibly impressive. It makes an IT guy wish every product/service could be so tightly and well-integrated.
  • Community support is excellent, Unifi staff monitors their official forums and responds to almost every thread.
  • There are serious quality control issues with Unifi switches, specifically the 16 port PoE model. I am not sure if it's firmware or hardware or a mixture of both, but I can't bring myself to replace reliable Cisco Small Business switches with Unifi ones until these issues are ironed out.
  • In the past, controller versions and AP firmwares were a crapshoot for reliability. Things have really picked up in the past year though, with rock-solid stability. Past issues still have me nervous every time I upgrade a controller or AP though.
  • The switch from Unifi Video to Protect has been handled terribly, and is a PR nightmare. Which is a shame, because Protect is just such an unbelievably good product.
  • Protect isn't available on any mid-range devices for supporting 20+ cameras. Right now, you have to use several CloudKey Gen2+, or pony up for the overpriced, poorly documented Unifi Application Server XG.
  • Serious quality control issues with In-Wall Pro APs. I have several that restart erratically or crash when there is heavy traffic (wired or wireless).
  • Support through official channels is just "ok."
  • What did they do to the forums? Oh man, what a terrible upgrade.
I'm having a hard time coming up with a scenario where an Unifi product wouldn't work. Home office? A single AC-Pro AP and a cloud key, and you're in business. Small/medium business? The same thing, just add more APs.Enterprise Deployments? Roll a controller on your Ubuntu instance and wire up your campus with APs. Outdoor space? A combination of the Mesh, Mesh with directional antennas and Mesh Pro's will cover that space with fast, reliable wifi. Sports arena? Wire up a bunch of BaseStation XG's (and get me some good seats). Then, monitor all these spaces with Protect cameras. The only thing I wouldn't do is use Unifi Switches and Gateways behind the scenes. I still prefer Cisco and Watchguard equipment for those duties due to their more flexible features. I do wish they had the management interface and integration that a full Unifi stack would have though!

My organization, a mid-sized, multi-campus church, decided to upgrade our network to an Ubiquiti Networks UniFi system, including the Ubiquiti Network UniFi software, multiple UniFi Access Points, and a UniFi Security Gateway Pro 4 with Cloud Key. The Ubiquiti system has allowed us to implement small organization networks at each campus, providing each location with a guest network for visitors plus a secured network for church staff, head volunteers, and essential equipment. The system also allows our head technology staff to manage the network remotely using a user friendly interface.
  • User Friendly Interface for Network Management
  • Wide Variety of Products to Extend UniFi System as needed
  • Easy implementation
  • More official support for varying configuration options (to assist beginners)
  • Requires purchase of additional equipment to remotely management network (would like this feature automatically incorporated into USG)
  • Without Cloud Key, network management can only be done from single computer
If looking to implement a full network from scratch, Ubiquiti is the way to go. The UniFi system is easy to roll out and provides solutions for whatever network needs you may encounter with a wide variety of products. The interface is easy to navigate. If users are unfamiliar with advanced networking terms and functions, however, some options may leave users confused or lost.

We have a UniFi-managed 48 port POE switch and a handful of the UniFi access points. Everything is very easy to get set up and working. It allowed us to very quickly build out our WiFi network with only having to run one cable to each access point. The only drawback has been the need to run the controller on a server somewhere. They do have gateway devices you can buy now that will run the controller software or you can go the cloud-hosted route; however, our services are in-house and for security, everything needs to run here.
  • Dead simple setup.
  • Easy to update.
  • Same features many of the other brands offer.
  • Firmware quality. Some of the past firmwares have had annoying bugs (such as rebooting the switch when changing a single port's LAN settings).
  • The controller software needing to be run on a server.
  • Client history could be more than 5 days. It's running on a server, why is there a limit to this data?
For small-to-medium businesses, the suite of UniFi products is outstanding. Getting it set up and integrated into existing infrastructure was amazingly simple. Clients will seamlessly hand off to access points as you roam around the building and the coverage of their access points is stellar. However, if you have a larger organization that needs complicated firewalls, proxies, or network management, you could be finding yourself buying a lot of equipment to get it to work together seamlessly. If you go all-in with all of their products from the threat management gateway all the way through switches and access points, you won't be disappointed. If you already have firewalls with complicated setups, you may not want to go all-in as it looks like they are just not as feature-rich.
